The fifth episode of the eleventh season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills opens with Kyle Richards giving Mauricio “Moe” Umansky some exposition to recap what’s been going on as she preps for her Election Night party later that day. On the plane ride home from Lake Tahoe, Kyle interrupted Dorit Kemsley talking with Crystal Minkoff about the events from that trip which resulted in Dorit and Kyle having a fight, ending with Kyle crying. Kyle discuses the text the women received from Erika Jayne about her divorce and says Erika won’t be attending the party tonight.
Crystal and her husband, Rob Minkoff, are on their way to Kyle’s party. Crystal says she’s never had anyone be as mean to her as Sutton Stracke was in Lake Tahoe. Kyle has asked her guests to dress in a patriotic theme. This means Dorit is wearing a chartreuse plaid blazer with matching skirt and Sutton‘s dress has a robot flirting with a ginger cat yielding a wizards’ staff. Lisa Rinna is wearing a blue sparkly jumpsuit and wig, named Barbie that Harry Hamlin monikered.
It comes out that Rinna talked to Erika about her divorce. Each lady says how surprised they are by the news. Kyle claims she would’ve shared marriage troubles with the ladies Had she been the one going through it. Kyle forces an awkward conversation between Sutton and Crystal. Sutton says she feels like they left things off “good“ at Lake Tahoe and Crystal says it’s fine. Cut to PK asking Rob how Crystals trip went, and he brings up how she got along with everyone except Sutton. Mauricio seems to be on Team Sutton’s and defends Sutton “barging in” on Crystal. (Which also leads me to believe that Kyle is Team Sutton.) Crystal shares she lost 5 pounds over the weekend in another dig at Sutton and the ladies tell Crystal she should thank Sutton. Awkwardly (for the women), Crystal shares she is a recovering bulimic so losing 5 pounds from stress was unwelcome.
Kyle pulls Dorit aside to discuss their fight from the plane. Dorit goes to put her drink down until Kyle tells her that she wants to talk about what happened on the plane and she brings her drink with her to sit on the couch. Kyle tells Dorit she feels as tho Dorit holds her to a different set of rules than she does the others. Dorit tells Kyle she interrupts her all the time and it sends the message that Kyle thinks what Dorit has to say is less important than what she does. Kyle says she talks all the time and claims that Dorit talked for 45 min on a 90 min plane ride. An explosive back and forth ends with Dorit putting her purse on and doing an EJ call back, that Kyle picks up on, “We’re good”. Dorit tells PK she wants to go immediately. And leaves the party early.
Sutton and Garcelle Beauvais are at the Bentley dealership for a private shopping trip. Garcelle shares her first car was a Toyota Tercel. We find out Garcelle is sympathetic and understanding to Erika not showing up to the election party and keeping her marital issues tight lipped around the other women. Garcelle asks Sutton if everything’s okay because she’s been making a lot of changes and Sutton asks if she’s having a mid life crisis and Garcelle implies a supportive yes. Sutton shares this Bentley convertible will be the first car she’s ever bought herself without asking someone else for permission.
Crystal and Rob are at home and Rob shares he chatted with Sutton and thought she was very nice and friendly. Crystal implies Sutton was on her best behavior that night. Little does Crystal know that that is Sutton’s usual behavior…Crystal shares that Rob and their two kids watch a new old 40s movie together every week and that she’s not invited. Rob shares he was surprised that Crystal talked about her eating disorder with the other women. Crystal shares that her parents never knew what she was going through and she tries to reshape how her daughter thinks of one’s body image and health to avoid passing on those issues. Crystal believes her eating disorder stemmed from a deep rooted desire to look more like her white American friends.
Kathy Hilton and Kyle arrive to Sutton’s boarded up store. Kathy referred to ”mom jeans” as “mama jeans“. Kyle admits to thinking mom jeans are ugly but that she wears them because they’re in. Sutton shares she’s throwing a $35k party at her rental house (Kyle’s house) and no one has RSVP’d. Kyle and Kathy get Sutton to text Erika asking for a response for a headcount. Kathy tells Sutton she should get rid of some furniture because it’s blocking an empty closet only to be told the empty closet is a bathroom. Sutton learns Erika is coming to her event and this will be the first time the ladies have seen her since the news broke about her divorce. Sutton said during her divorce she took every opportunity to get out of bed and get dressed to be around other people. Kathy keeps trying to redesign Sutton’s store and get rid of furniture. I would love to see a Sutton store in Kathy’s vision with no bathroom and no desks.
At Lisa Rinna’s house, Harry Hamlin has started a COVID garden because he thought Armageddon would come along with the pandemic. He then has Rinna do a fire drill in case of Santa Ana winds come through in which she would literally fight the fire. (Who knew Harry Hamlin was a prepper?!)
The ladies arrive at Sutton’s (Kyle’s) house for her event. She tells her event planner he’s gone too bridal with the decoration when the theme is Paris. Kyle picks up Crystal at her house to go to the event and becomes distracted by Crystal’s $95k Hermès purse and can no longer carry on a conversation about the weather. Dorit is dressed more patriotic for Sutton’s event then she was for Kyle’s Election Night party. Kyle is having major FOMO seeing Sutton living in her old house. Rinna shows up wearing the same dress as Kyle. All the ladies knock to enter except Garcelle who walks right in. Garcelle asks the other ladies about Erika’s divorce. Garcelle asks if they think Erika should’ve waited until Tom died rather than divorce him. Erika arrives and the episode ends.
