Psycho: Stop and Throw the Roses

We tune back in to episode 6 of the Real Housewives of New York as Eboni K. Williams is leaving Luann de Lesseps’ Hampton home. She arrives back at Ramona Singer’s to rehash the explosive lunch with Leah McSweeney. Back at Lu’s, Heather Thomson tries to explain what Lu did wrong in the argument. Ramona admits to not knowing what white fragility means and being too nervous to ask with how upset Eboni was.

The ladies head back to Ramona’s. Heather sits in with Eboni and Leah. Heather tries to say that she was involved with black culture because of her former work with Puffy and Beyoncé. She gets Eboni to talk with Lu after their fight. She also tries to mend things with Leah and Ramona. Which of course, Leah would never do. Leah decides she can’t make up with Ramona because they’re currently dealing with race issues.

Ramona surprises Sonja Morgan in the kitchen with a bikini apron shares each lady will get one.

All of the ladies sit down to chat. Eboni explains to Lu the connotation of the “angry“ label to a black woman. Lu apologies but expects to receive an apology in return from Eboni for shouting at her in her own home. Heather jumps in explain why Eboni’s reaction shouldn’t be something she should apologize for. The ladies mend things and Eboni excuses herself from the dinner to order her own comfort food after the day she’s had. Sonja tires to explain to Eboni that she hopes she’ll give Lu another chance because at the end of the day Lu has a good heart. Eboni tells Sonja’s she’s a queen who needs better self esteem. Heather says goodnight to Leah and Eboni and tells Eboni she’s very articulate. (I’m glad Heather is so in touch.)

Leah has a new confessional look with brassy hair. I hate all her confessional looks so far.

Sonja and Ramona are getting ready for the day. Ramona tells Sonja, while holding fans with “more is more“ on them, that she’s realized that if she was the only white woman in a group of black women, she would feel misunderstood based on having a different experience from everyone else and is wanting to be more cognizant and understanding of that. Ramona admits in her confessional that she’s been googling racism.

Ramona says Sonja loves fishing and has planned a day to go to the beach, go fishing, and have a picnic in October. Eboni calls a matchmaker to set up Sonja with a man. Leah wears 3 pairs of pants to go fishing. Luann shares that the women are dressing up for a 70s pageant themed Halloween party.

The women get to the beach and put on waders to go fishing in the ocean. Sonja tells their guide, “I’m Sagittarius, I always catch a fish.” Leah spends her time hula-hooping on the beach with Lu. Sonja gets a lot of one-on-one attention with their fishing instructor. Eboni and Lu talk again just the two of them and really squash their beef from the prior day. Ramona has set up a beach picnic for the ladies. Eboni tells Sonja that she has a matchmaker who is arranging a man for Sonja. Lu discusses each lady’s talent for the party. Ramona says her only talents are cooking and making money. Eboni invites everyone to an election party. Leah tells everyone she’s not voting and jumps on Heather when Heather tries to ask her a question.

Back at the house, before the party, Ramona practices her pageant walk and answers. Leah gets a call from her mom about her grandmother‘s deteriorating condition. Awkwardly, Leah makes more excuses about not rushing to New Jersey to see her grandmother: her grandmother not being responsive, her family being too large, etc. Eboni talks about her love of costume parties. We see each woman warm up their talent. Heather complains to Sonja that Leah has been mean to her. Eboni tries to talk to Leah about voting in the upcoming election. She mentions that Heather and her talked about it and Eboni tries to reopen the conversation around voting and why it’s important, especially in regards to her. When Leah finds out Heather shares these sentiments too, she storms off. Unbeknownst to Leah, Heather is in the middle of talking about Leah to Sonja in the living room. Leah confronts Heather from the upstairs balcony. She calls Heather “white feminism 101” and a Karen. Leah says that Karen’s like you are the problem. Eboni owns up to lighting the match with Leah to Heather. Ramona, from the lower level bathroom, is caught complaining about the women giving her a headache. Leah harps “so much for a fun night” at the universe, as if she isn’t the one who started all of it and continues to be a drain on the group. In the van, Leah forgets her hula-hoops, so Lu goes back into the house for her, leaving her in the van with Heather. Leah complains about being left in the limo with Heather and Heather tells Leah to relax and STFU, prompting Leah to throw her flowers and get in Heather’s face.

Lu screams “Hurry up! They‘re going to kill each other in the van!” Eboni grabs the tequila and runs. Leah threatens to not attend the party and starts to collect her things. Leah says she’s not going anywhere with Heather, doesn’t want to see Heather, and she’s a psycho. Next week’s episode is teased with the pageant and drama with Ramona.
